Style Diaries: One Piece, 3 Ways
We’ve all been there. Staring blankly into the abyss that is your closet; not knowing what goes with what or how to style your new baggy jeans. Suddenly your stylishly creative brain turns to mush. Well do not fear, your aesthetically cultured online friend is here! In this post I will be diving into a new series here on the Mad So Chic blog, the Style Diaries. Today we will be discussing a styling staple that belongs in every person’s wardrobe; a button down shirt. The timeless basic is extremely versatile and can compliment any outfit with the correct styling. Although, in my opinion, there’s no wrong way to wear or style your clothes, there is absolutely a way to up your game and be more creative. 2024 is the year to step out of your comfort zone and be creative with fashion! FORGET THE HATERS!
Now, back to the program. Again, this week’s Style Diaries subject, the classic button down shirt is one of many basic pieces to building the foundation of your wardrobe. I’m sure every one already has one in their closet, but if you do not, they are fortunately super affordable and can be found pretty much anywhere. Look for one next time you’re at your local thrift store or mall.
Here are 3 ways in which you can style a simple buttoned shirt. :)
The Main Event
The first way of styling is the most simple and least complicated. You can easily throw on a button down with jeans, pants, or a maxi skirt and look put together. Whether you’re going for a casual outfit or dressing for work, you’ll look super stylish when the button down is the main event of the outfit.
2. Under a Sweater/Vest
The second styling method, and my personal favorite, is wearing your basic button down underneath a sweater or vest. In recent months I am seeing many women styling one underneath an off-the-shoulder sweater. It is definitely a unique twist on the sweater over collared shirt combo and we are here for it!
3. Layered Look
The third and final style recipe is the layered look. Layering is super popular during colder months because it gives you room to look unique while staying warm. The lovely women above have stacked 3-4 pieces with the button down being the middle layer. This would be the most common way to layer the shirt.
